Set your target percentile and accuracy to see the marks you need and how many questions to attempt in each section, based on recent CAT score curves.
Uses ThinkCAT’s CAT 2024 score-to-percentile estimates (the same curve as the score vs percentile calculator), +3 per correct answer, −1 per wrong MCQ, and no penalty on TITA questions (about 30% of the paper). Sectional cut-offs still apply, so spread attempts across all three sections.
Official Benchmark & Strategic Decision Snapshot
At 60% accuracy you need far more attempts for the same score than at 85%.
Spread attempts so each section clears its own cut-off.
A tough paper lowers the marks needed for the same percentile.
Around 76–78 marks reached the 99th percentile in CAT 2024–2025. At 80% accuracy that is roughly 34–35 attempts; at 90% accuracy, about 29–30.
About 44–46 marks in CAT 2024–2025 (more in easier years, such as 57 in 2021). At 80% accuracy that is about 20–21 attempts.
Accuracy first. A wrong MCQ costs a third of a right one, so 80%+ accuracy on fewer questions usually beats more attempts at 60%.
