Core formulas

% change = (New − Old) ÷ Old × 100; the base is the starting value
Up x%: × (1 + x/100). Down x%: × (1 − x/100)
Successive a% and b%: a + b + ab/100 (falls are negative)
Price up r% ⇒ cut use by 100r/(100 + r)% to keep spend flat

60-second shortcut · Think in fractions

1/6 = 16.67%, 1/7 = 14.28%, 1/8 = 12.5%, 1/9 = 11.11%. So +25% then −20% = 5/4 × 4/5 = no change.

Looks like: +20% then −20% cancels outActually: 1.2 × 0.8 = 0.96: a 4% fall
